Volcanoes are an interesting phenomenon but flying in the range of an active one, with its far-reaching ash cloud, can be very hazardous. Scandlearn created a course giving full insight into Volcanic Ash Operations and all related issues.
Volcanoes continue to erupt around the world – most recently the volcanic event of 2010 caused air travel turmoil. Ash clouds are not picked up by radars and are invisible at night, so they pose a great danger to aircraft safety. This course helps crew members boost knowledge about volcano behavior about air traffic and to recognize the early warning signs.
Topics Included
- Volcanoes are nothing new
- St. Elmo’s fire
- The ash cloud
- Airport operations with volcanic ash exposure
- VAACs (Volcanic Ash Advisory Centers)
